Reuben Mowle, Isle of Wight filmmaker and photographer

About · Filmmaker and photographer · Isle of Wight

Reuben Mowle is a filmmaker and photographer based on the Isle of Wight. He makes films, photographs and social content for food, drink, hospitality and lifestyle brands, and since 2024 that is all he does.

Hi, I’m Reuben. I have made films and photographs for brands and people for ten years, and I have done it full-time since February 2018. I have lived on the Isle of Wight for 31 years, and in my opinion it is the most beautiful place in England.

How I got here

I got into film almost by mistake. I studied music at university, and for fun I edited silly videos that ended up on the internet. They were daft, but they made me a quick editor.

Our music project needed a music video for its end-of-year commercial project, so I stepped up and offered to film and edit it. It was my first ever video, and I was surprised how much I loved it: the production, the shoot, and the thrill of turning raw footage into an edit. After that I volunteered to make videos for anyone at university who needed one.

After university I felt a bit lost. I had two jobs I hated: stacking shelves in a supermarket, and scrubbing toilets in a pizza restaurant at seven in the morning. On the side, I ran a little business filming videos for people. I would film anything and everything if it got me out of there.

In February 2018, nine months after leaving university, I decided enough was enough. I was in a lot of debt and had nothing lined up, but I left those jobs and jumped in with both feet. It opened the door to a career in video, photography and social media.

Why food, drink and hospitality

For years I was a general videographer. I filmed music videos and events like festivals, but mostly I filmed weddings. In 2024 I retired from weddings.

Filming so many different projects for so many people showed me what I enjoy most, and the answer was obvious: food, drink, hospitality and lifestyle. Since 2024 I have worked only in those areas, and I have never loved my job more. It is where I am most comfortable, most confident and most able, so my editing style, my kit and the way I run a project are all built around brands in those sectors.

I am not the cheapest photographer and videographer you will find, and I am happy to say so. I believe you get what you pay for. The best way to know if we are a good fit is to watch the work, because in the end taste and style are what set one filmmaker apart from another.

I still think back to that pizza restaurant. It is what gives me the drive to keep improving, and to make sure every project gets the same care, attention and passion as the last. I do not take any of it for granted.

How a shoot runs

Every client gets the same clear process, shaped around their brand rather than copied and pasted from the last job.

  1. A short discovery call. You tell me about your brand, what you want to achieve and where the content will live.
  2. A written plan. I write a treatment and shot list, with creative direction, so we both know what we are making before anyone picks up a camera.
  3. Budget and timeline, agreed in writing. You get a written agreement that you can sign online.
  4. The shoot. I bring my own equipment, with lighting and audio set up where they are needed, and I help anyone in front of the camera relax so the results look natural.
  5. The edit. Everything is edited and colour graded, and you get the chance to review it.
  6. Delivery. Finished files arrive ready for your website, social media and ads, usually within 2 to 3 weeks of the shoot. Express turnarounds of 24 to 72 hours are available when speed matters.

Every shoot comes with an unlimited royalty-free licence, so you can use the work anywhere, forever. Prices are on the services page.

Island businesses I have worked with

I have been lucky to work with some of the best food, drink and hospitality businesses on the Isle of Wight. A few of them:

  • Wight Whiskey: a 30-second brand film, later shown on the Wightlink ferries, plus photography.
  • Robert Thompson at RT Cafe Grill: food films on a retainer since June 2025, including All Day Anderson.
  • Charnwood, Vlaze and AJ Wells and Sons: films and photography every year since 2019.
  • Isle of Wight Tomatoes: videos and photos for their B Corp announcement.
  • Harvey Browns: films of their Cleaver Club dining event, for staff training and social media.
  • Slow Mo Saunas and Moor Farm: part of a three-day campaign with Muck Boots and Red Funnel.

Beyond the island, I have also made work with Muck Boots, Red Funnel and Big Green Egg. You can see the full stories on the work page.

My other businesses

Alongside client work I run a few other things. Each one feeds back into the shoots I make for you.

  • Isle of Wight Stock: a library of licensed photos and video, all shot on the Isle of Wight, mostly by me plus a few other island creators. My clients can add island scenery to their edits at exclusive rates.
  • Good Grief: Isle of Wight food and drink, on film. It often ends up covering the same local businesses I work with.
  • Fix It In Post: practical guides and Mac apps for working videographers, written from real client work.
